City of Joliet
The City’s management of stormwater cleanliness (quality) is governed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through the National Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit process. Residents will be encouraged to participate in environmentally conscience storm water management through the use of rain barrels, rain gardens, and the proper disposal of trash, pet waste, oil, and other contaminants. Contaminants and debris should never be dumped into a storm sewer drain as these contaminants directly affect the water quality of our streams and rivers.

Our Goal:
Most of the animals that we receive were impacted by man in some way. They were caught by a cat, hit by a car, or become tangled in fishing lines. Our goal is to release these animals back in to the wild because they deserve a second chance.
We will be bringing our Canada goose, Lucy, materials about our center and information about wildlife in general for the public to take home. We will also have take home activity sheets for children. We look forward to answering questions from the public and talking about the work that we do.

Pop Tab Dump Day in an annual event that raises money for Ronald McDonald House Charities by collecting and recycling pop tabs. With the support of civic leaders, schools, and business in the Minooka-Channahon, the event culminates a year-long effort to encourage aluminum recycling. Local businesses promote the event, and local schools participate in Dump Day-related recycling programs.
A major partner in Pop Tab Dump Day is Rexam, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of aluminum cans. They supply, free of charge, the containers needed for recycling cans with proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House Charities. More than 150 recycling containers have been placed throughout the area.

Will County Land Use Department Resource Recovery and Energy Division (RR&E)is responsible for the management of our County’s landfill, used ARRA funds to build our waste-gas to energy facility that captures methane gas and converts it to electricity powering over 5,000 homes. RR&E’s Waste Analyst inspect our transfer stations and compost facilities to verify that they are acting in compliance with IEPA regulations. Waste Analyst also inspect open dumping complaints and enforce the Burn Ordinance. RR&E created several of the current recycling (municipal and township) programs and partnered with municipalities, townships and the Will County Forest Preserve District to establish 13 permanent electronic drop off sights, and has funded Will County’s investment in Naperville’s permanent Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) drop off site. RR&E sponsors and funds several recycling events for County Residents including; HHW, municipal tire, book, document shredding and electronics. RR&E is the division that manages Will County’s participation in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Challenge and works with building maintenance managers to identify and obtain funding for the energy efficiency retrofits to reduce total energy usage in County owned buildings with a goal of 20% overall usage reduction by 2020. RR&E worked to complete a Will County Brownfield inventory in order to identify opportunities to remediate vacant sites and return them to the tax rolls or as needed open space. RR&E has implemented the We WILL Grow School and Community Garden Program with the hope of educating residents on the ease of growing food and the health benefits of eating fresh, locally grown food. Women of Faith for Justice
We are “Women of Faith for Justice,” an interfaith, multi-cultural women’s organization that promotes social justice–including care of the earth and its creatures, and a place where every member’s voice is heard and respected.
Bluestem attendees will have opportunity to observe our displays, take an informational flyer, and sign up for e-mails regarding the organization’s meetings and activities, and speak with a member about the almost 4 year old “Women of Faith for Justice.”
Our mission statement is: Standing on the shoulders of the women who have gone before us, engaging the next generation of women, we claim our voices as women of faith , responding to the movement of the Spirit within us.”
We meet the last Monday of each month, except July and December, at 7pm. Our meeting location is Sacred Heart Monastery, 1910 Maple Ave., Lisle, IL 60532.
